🌏 After the Coronavirus pandemic, the world has changed in every aspect. For example, restaurants have to alter from eat-in to take away, education also changed from studying onsite to studying online. This change highly affects our lifestyle including entertainment, concerts, fan meetings, or movie theatre businesses. Thus, many organizers were put in a position that they had to deal with the new phenomenon. Most of the entertainment media alter to the online platform, which causes a new atmosphere of entertainment such as concerts and live-shows. The first and online concert that captures the hearts of the audiences by using technologies, “SM Town Beyond Live”.

SM Town Beyond Live is the live concert streaming coordinated by SM Entertainment in partnership with NAVER. NAVER is a South Korean development company which is the pioneer of creating media contents and streaming through an online platform which is Naver V Live. This particular concert not only creates the real atmosphere of an actual concert but also creates the splendid surroundings like sound effects, lights, and many technologies that help build excitement of the audiences throughout the concert. 

The specialty of SM Beyond Live is that it applies the technologies such as 3D graphics, AR, sound effect, graphic background, and live streaming system to make the concert feel realistic for the audience. The example of utilizing technology in SM Beyond Live is ‘Super Junior beyond the Super Show’. The show generates audiences’ surprise by ‘Giant Sivon’- the 3D model of Sivon with 12 meters high. Giant Sivon created by AR technology and 4K quality of camera to portray the huge Sivon. Moreover, if audiences prefer to catch their eyes on the one artist they love, they can select the camera which is called ‘multicam’ to focus on only that particular artist.

Additionally, AR is able to bring the graphic background of the show that is extremely marvelous like NCT’s show. The graphic background portrayed the gigantic palace as if they brought the real palace from the MV. Furthermore, LED light was created to enhance the show; therefore, the show was very impressive by using the modern technologies. Although it is an online concert, SM ensures the audiences would not feel like they were watching it at home alone by the help of the mentioned technologies. Moreover, around 100 TVs air live videos of fans who are supporting their idols from home and for the idols, they will connect with their fans by answering comments through an online channel. Most Importantly, there were also random lucky fans that got selected to exclusively talk with artists via the interpretative service.

By looking at the SM Town beyond Live concert, this new normal makes us realize that technology plays a vital role in the entertainment industry. Technology helps us get closer even if we are not together physically. Technology also develops the entertainment industry to the future, helping the fans get closer to their idols during this tough time.
